RĀDHIKĀṢṬAKAM

Eight Verses Glorifying Śrī Rādhikā from Govinda Līlāmṛta by Śrī Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī  with translation by Śrī Babaji

(1)

Her complexion defies the beauty of a golden lotus tinged with kuṅkuma. Her fragrance denigrates the glory of a lotus sprinkled with saffron powder. She fulfills all the desires of the prince of Vraja. May this Śrī Rādhikā always bestow upon me the service of Her lotus feet.

Her dazzlingly colorful silk sari crushes the splendor of coral. She worships the sun god to meet Kṛṣṇa eternally. She is a garden full of multitudes of blooming flowers that attract the maddened bumblebee Śrī Kṛṣṇa to come play among them. May this Śrī Rādhikā always bestow upon me the service of Her lotus feet.

(3)

saukumārya-sṛṣta-pallavāli-kīrti-nigrahā candra-candanotpalendu-sevya-śita-vigrahā svābhimarśa-ballāviśa-kāma-tāpa-bādhikā mahyam ātma-pāda-padma-dāsya-dāstu rādhikā

Her softness excels delicate budding flowers. Her cooling body is adorned by a moon, sandalwood paste, lotuses, and camphor. Her touch dispels the heat of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s amorous passions. May this Śrī Rādhikā always bestow upon me the service of Her lotus feet.

(4)

viśva-vandya-yauvatābhivanditāpi yā ramā rūpa-navya-yauvanādi-sampadā na yat-samā śila-hārda-līlayā ca sā yato ’sti nādhikā mahyam ātma-pāda-padma-dāsya-dāstu rādhikā

All the adorable damsels of the universe respect Lakṣmī Devī, but the wealth of Śrī Radhika’s beauty and Her ever-fresh youthfulness overshadow Lakṣmī Devī. She cannot surpass Rādhikā’s naturally loving and playful personality. May this Śrī Rādhikā always bestow upon me the service of Her lotus feet.

(5)

She is expert in all divine arts of rāsa-līlā, like dancing, singing, and joking. She is blessed with supernatural love and enchanting beauty, wonderful dresses and ornaments, and all divine virtues. She is the best damsel of Vraja. May this Śrī Rādhikā always bestow upon me the service of Her lotus feet.

(6)

Her ever-fresh beauty and playfulness and Her ever-renewed wealth of affection for Krsna causes all the young damsels of Vraja to fall in love with Śrī Kṛṣṇa and tremble in anticipation. She is immersed in deep meditation upon Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s beauty, attire, and playful pastimes. May this Śrī Rādhikā always bestow upon me the service of Her lotus feet.

(7)

She is endowed with the eight sāttvika-bhāvas—trembling, perspiring, crying, stuttering, having goosebumps, and so on. She is adorned with many emotional ornaments, such as pride, joy, stubbornness, and so on. She is decorated with beautiful jewels that give delight to Kṛṣṇa’s eyes. May Śrī Rādhikā always bestow upon me the service of Her lotus feet.

(8)

yā kṣaṇārdha-kṛṣṇa-viprayoga-santatoditā-neka-dainya-cāpalādi-bhāva-vṛnda-moditā yatna-labdha-kṛṣṇa-saṅga-nirgatākhilādhikā mahyam ātma-pāda-padma-dāsya-dāstu rādhikā

She becomes depressed by being separated from Śrī Kṛṣṇa for even half a moment, but relieved from Her anguish by meeting Śrī Kṛṣṇa through the great efforts of Her friends. May this Śrī Rādhikā always bestow upon me the service of Her lotus feet.

(9)

aṣṭakena yas tv anena nauti kṛṣṇa-vallabhāṁ darśane ’pi śailajādi-yoṣidāli-durlabhām kṛṣṇa-saṅga-nanditātma-dāsya-sīdhu-bhājanaṁ taṁ karoti nanditāli-sañcayāśu sā janam

May that Śrī Radhika, whose sight is rarely attained by Parvatī Devī and other goddesses, who gives immense pleasure to Her companions, who Herself is elated on meeting with Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and who is Kṛṣṇa’s dearest lover, make that person who praises Her by singing this aṣṭakam a recipient of the nectar of Her service very soon.
